Q.Tell me a general data required for setting up a CCSL account.

     Nameserver1 : 202.51.0.40
     Nameserver2 : 202.51.0.41
     Nameserver3 : 202.51.1.41

     SMTP Server : smtp.ccsl.com.np
     Pop3 Server : pop3.ccsl.com.np
     Proxy Server: proxy.ccsl.com.np

Q. Why I am not getting a connection?

Failure to make a connection at all could be due to the wrong telephone number. Please check our FAQ " What are your          telephone numbers? " for correct numbers.

Q. I am getting message like "The line is busy. Try again later" . Why always the line is busy?

This is not a common error, but when it happens at the moment that you're dying to log on, it is perhaps one of the most frustrating. Although a simple error, there are a few issues which need to be addressed.   The line you are dialling may be full, and you should dial back in a few minutes. This may occur during peak periods of use    Check that you have disabled the "Use country code and area code" section of Dialup Networking as you may be dialling outside the local area

Q.What is this garbage I keep getting?

If you use a simple low speed modem with no special features, chances are  that you've become used to encountering random garbage during your session.  This is called line noise by many people but is actually signal  distortion and is a result of the modem not "hearing" correctly the signal  on the phone line.  Phone lines are relatively low-grade, and so can  introduce variables in signal quality.

Q.What can I do about line noise?

The simple answer is, not much.  Unless you buy another modem which has  built-in error correction support, your only real option is to put up with  it.  If the problem is really bad, talking to the phone company might help,  but not likely.

Q.Everybody keeps telling me to "set to 8N1".  What does this mean?

They are referring to your serial port configuration, which are some of the  more obvious settings you can adjust in your terminal program.  Set data bits to 8,parity  to None and stop bits to 1.

Q.Why there is no username appears in Postdial Terminal?

Your parity setting and baud rate are not being picked up.  Check your modem settings to ensure you have them set correctly.Parity should  be set to None.

Another possibility is that your modem is picking up noise on the phone line. Check  your modem manual to see if your modem has error correction and that it is enabled.

Q.Why do I get disconnected?

Disconnections can be caused any  number of things, at any number of  points along the line between us and you.

Disconnection at our end - caused by:
      - Multiple logins by same user
      - Idle timeout
      - Technical problems (system crash, modem crash, etc - rare case)
      - Deliberate disconnection - perhaps something bad being done by the user, so a system administrator disconnects them

Disconnection between our end and your end - caused by:
      - Noisy phone line
      - Problems at the exchange

Disconnection at your end - caused by:
      - Incorrect initialisation string
      - Telephone extension cables
      - Idle timeout on computer
      - Faulty phone socket
      - Faulty modem

Q.Why do I see "NO CARRIER" after a couple of rings?  Did I do something wrong?

No, this is normal.  All it means is that your modem is no longer receiving  a signal from the remote one, which can be expected if someone just logged off.

Secondly, it might be due to malfunction of a telephone line from the pool.

Q.What are your telephone numbers?

The current recommended dialup numbers are:

438036
439730
439740
253270
253802
222225

All these numbers are connected to high speed modems.

Q.Can I use SMTP for incoming as well as outgoing mail Server?

Yes, basically, SMTP requires a fixed IP for operation. The domain  name needs to resolve to an IP number (Mail Record - MX) to be able to  work. ie The mail is sent via SMTP to that IP.

Q.Can I access my CCSL email account from outside CCSL network?

It is indeed possible.  One way is to simply get an account elsewhere in  the world, and then set your mail program's settings accordingly, ie:

  POP3 Server - pop3.ccsl.com.np
  POP3 Account - meronam

Secondly, you could dial into CCSL from overseas and get your mail in  that way.  As long as you log on, get your mail, then log straight off  again, the phone bill shouldn't be TOO horrendous.

Another way you could do it is to visit an Internet Cafe - this would be  quite similar to the first technique, except you wouldn't actually have  to have another account.

Q.  Why does the mail server keep asking for my password when I try to download my mail?

If the mail server sees that you have entered an incorrect password, it will ask  you for it again, to ensure you have typed it in correctly.   Be certain that you  are typing in your user name correctly (all lowercase) and that you are typing in
your password with the proper capitalization (uppercase and lowercase, if necessary).

Q.  I can read e-mail fine, but I can't send it.   What do I do?

If only one part of e-mail is working, you probably have the servers entered  incorrectly.  Click on Tools, Accounts, the Mail tab, and then vishnu.ccsl.com.np   Click Properties and then click Server Types.  The incoming mail server should  be vishnu.ccsl.com.np  and the outgoing mail server should be vishnu.ccsl.com.np  If it still doesn't work, try completely removing the account by clicking Tools,
Accounts, the Mail tab, and then Net reach.  Click Remove, and confirm by  clicking Yes.  Then, to re-add your mail account, click Add and then Mail.   Follow the instructions as they appear on screen.

Q. Why can't I send mail to ...?

Sometimes, you may find that you cannot send mail to a specific address, even  though all other e-mail functions are working perfectly.  This problem can have  two causes:

 A. The address is typed incorrectly or does not exist.  The Internet moves  at a furious pace, and the e-mail address that you got a month ago may   no longer exist.  Confirm by contacting the recipient that their e-mail  address as you have it is still current and that you are typing it correctly.

B. The recipient's server is rejecting your message.  Most Internet Service   Providers, to protect the sanity of their users, will reject mail from certain   domains if large amounts of spam (mass unsolicited e-mail) have originated from that domain.

Q.   I start to download my mail and it says "Receiving message 1 of..."but nothing happens.  Why?

Someone may have sent you a very large message that will take several  minutes or more to download.  Sometimes, the message will be so large that the progress bar will not even show progress for a bit.  If you don't want to download large messages automatically, you can in most cases have your mail  program skip over large messages.   Look under Options in your mail program   for a setting like "Do not download messages over..." and select it.

Q.  What is the maximum limit on the size of an e-mail message?

We recommend that you attach files to e-mail that are no larger than 1 MB in  size.   The hard limit for an e-mail message is 10 MB; however, it is not  recommended to test this limit.  The message may be lost or may have to be  deleted by System Administration or Technical Support.  Sending large  messages can also cause problems for the recipient.

Q.  What are the mail server names?

Our mail server is a POP3 server.  The incoming mail server is pop3.ccsl.com.np  and the outgoing mail server is smtp.ccsl.com.np

Q.Well, there's something else I'd like to know but this FAQ hasn't quite answered it.  What should I do?
